Egmont Sippel is the SAGMJ Motoring Journalist of the Year


Egmont Sippel of Rapport is the South African Guild of Motoring Journalists� Motoring Journalist of the Year. Winner of the Photographer of the Year competition is Danie van Jaarsveld of Johannesburg-based photographic agency Motorpics.

The two winners of the ABSA Vehicle Finance sponsored event received their trophies and a cheque for R6 000 each at an awards ceremony held today at the Johannesburg Country Club in Woodmead, Sandton.

Chairman of the judging panel, McCarthy Motors CEO Brand Pretorius, praised the consistently high quality of both journalist�s work. Sippel won two of the four categories in which he entered � Motorsport, Newspapers and Motorsport, Magazines � and was runner up in the remaining two � Motoring, Newspapers and Motoring, Magazines. Van Jaarsveld�s photographs won the Motorsport category while his Motoring portfolio was awarded runner up status.

A special ABSA sponsored award for high quality journalism in the motoring related business field went to David Furlonger of the Financial Mail, whose portfolio won the Motoring, Magazines category. Similar work by Colin Windell of Autonews was highly commended.

Entries were received from more than 60 motoring journalists and photographers in nine categories. The portfolios were judged by a panel of motoring experts.
